You found the perfect piano cover, a melody you want to sample or a solo you want to learn, and it only exists as a YouTube video. Working it out note by note means replaying the same few seconds dozens of times. A YouTube to MIDI converter listens for you: it pulls the audio from the link and writes the pitches, start times and lengths into a MIDI file your DAW, notation app or keyboard can read. These are the problems it removes:
From a YouTube link to an editable MIDI file without leaving the page.
The audio of the video is fetched for you from the link, so there is no file to save, rename or upload.
Every detected note appears on a scrollable piano roll with a playhead, so you can see the melody and the chords at a glance.
Chords, bass lines and melodies are detected together, so piano covers and guitar parts come out as full voicings.
Sensitivity, note length, pitch range, overtone removal and quantize redraw the piano roll instantly, without converting again.
Play the original audio and the MIDI side by side with a mix slider and check every note against the recording.
Export a standard MIDI file that opens in Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, GarageBand, MuseScore and more.
The short answer to how can I make a MIDI of a YouTube song: copy the link, paste it, and download the notes.
Open the video and copy its address from the browser bar or the Share button. Watch links, short youtu.be links and Shorts all work, as long as the video is public or unlisted.
Sign in, paste the link and press Get Audio. When the audio arrives, choose the part you want, preview it and press Convert to MIDI; the AI note detection runs in your browser and draws the notes on the piano roll. Videos up to 10 minutes long work.
Play it back, adjust sensitivity, note length, pitch range and quantize until it sounds right, set the tempo, then download the .mid file.
Built for musicians who want usable notes, not a page of guesses.
Most audio to MIDI tools stop at a file upload, which means saving the audio of a video first. Here you paste the link and the audio is fetched for you, so a YouTube video to MIDI takes one step instead of three. When the audio arrives you choose the part to convert, so a short solo inside a longer video is all you have to process. Link conversions need a free account and use one credit per minute of video, because fetching the audio costs us real money; uploading a file you already have stays free and needs no sign in. Either way the note detection itself runs in your browser. It works the same for a yt link to MIDI from your phone or your laptop.
Convert a YouTube LinkThe result is not just a download button. Every note is drawn on a piano roll with a keyboard on the side, a beat grid and a playhead that follows playback. Click a note to hear it, click the grid to jump there, and zoom in on a fast passage. A mix slider blends the original YouTube audio with a synth playing the detected notes, which makes it easy to spot a wrong octave or a missing chord tone before you export the YouTube MIDI file.
Open the Piano RollBusy mixes produce extra notes, so the controls are there to trim them. Raise the sensitivity threshold to drop faint ghost notes, set a shortest note length to remove clicks, narrow the pitch range to the instrument you want, remove overtone notes and quantize to 1/8, 1/16 or 1/32 so the notes snap to the grid. Every change redraws instantly, because the AI only runs once per video. The tempo of the exported file is yours to set, or tap it in, so the bars line up in your session.
Clean Up the NotesDrag the .mid into Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase or Reaper and assign any instrument: turn a piano cover into strings, or a sung melody into a synth lead. Need notation? Open the file in MIDI to sheet music. Playing guitar? Turn the same YouTube audio to MIDI into tablature with the guitar tab generator. Want the key and tempo first? Run the song through the BPM and key finder.
Export the MIDIPick a video type to see how the notes come out and play the piano roll.
A solo piano cover gives the cleanest result, with melody and left hand both on the roll. A hummed melody comes out as a single line with a few wobbles to tidy. A full band mix is the hardest case: the notes are there, but so are extra ones from drums and other instruments, which is why the cleanup controls and a narrow pitch range matter. Quantize snaps loose timing to the grid.
How clean the notes come out depends on how clearly each part can be heard. Use this as a guide before you convert YouTube to MIDI.
| Which YouTube Videos Convert Best to MIDI | Result | Tip for cleaner notes |
|---|---|---|
| Solo piano cover | Excellent | Covers recorded close up with little reverb work best. |
| Singing or humming | Very good | One clear voice without backing music gives a tidy melody. |
| Acoustic or electric guitar | Good | Lessons and solo playthroughs beat full band videos. |
| Bass line | Good | Narrow the pitch range to the low register. |
| Full band or orchestral mix | Mixed | Expect extra notes; raise sensitivity and clean up. |
| Drums | Not suited | Only pitched notes are detected; program drums by hand. |
Musicians who learn, arrange and produce from videos.
Turn a piano cover you are allowed to study into MIDI, slow it down in your DAW and learn it hand by hand.
Pull a melody idea from your own published video into MIDI and rebuild it with new sounds.
Convert a lesson video to MIDI, then into tabs with the guitar tab generator.
Prepare exercises from performance videos you have permission to use and print them with audio to sheet music.
Turn a sung demo you uploaded to YouTube into a melody line to tidy up and arrange around.
Get a starting arrangement from a reference video, then make it your own; publishing covers of copyrighted songs needs the right license.
I learn piano from cover videos. Pasting the link and getting the notes on a piano roll saves me an hour of rewinding for every piece.

My old demos only survive on YouTube. Converting them to MIDI and loading them into Ableton brought half a dozen ideas back to life.

Electronic Producer
The cleanup controls are the difference. A narrow pitch range and quantize to 1/16 turned a busy mix into a bass line I could actually use.

Session Bassist
Hearing the MIDI and the original together caught the wrong octave notes straight away, before I ever opened my DAW.

Answers to what musicians ask before converting a video.
Copy the video link, sign in, paste it and press Get Audio. Pick the part you want and press Convert to MIDI; the notes are detected in your browser, and you download the result as a .mid file after checking it on the piano roll.
Use the converter above: paste the song link, wait for the notes to appear, clean them up with the controls and export. For the best result, pick a video where the part you want is clear, such as a solo piano cover.
Uploading an audio file you already have is free with no sign in. Converting from a link needs a free account and uses one credit per started minute of video to fetch the audio, so links are not free; the credits new accounts get on signup cover a first try. If a fetch fails, the credit comes back. See the pricing page for more.
Yes. Whether you search for YT to MIDI, a YouTube link to MIDI or a YouTube to MIDI conversion, it is the same job: paste the address and get the notes back as a MIDI file.
This page is a URL to MIDI converter for YouTube links. For a recording from anywhere else, save the file and upload it on the audio to MIDI page, which also handles a YouTube MP3 to MIDI if you already have the audio.
No. It detects pitched notes in the whole mix and does not split instruments apart, so full band videos produce extra notes. Pick videos where one instrument or voice is clear, or isolate a part first with the vocal remover.
The tempo of the MIDI file is set by you, typed in or tapped, with 120 BPM as the default; use the BPM and key finder to find it. Drums are not transcribed, only pitched notes.
From a link, a video can be up to 10 minutes long. A longer one is stopped before any notes are detected and its credit is refunded, and so are private, members only, age restricted and region blocked videos; playlists are not accepted. If you have the audio as a file, upload it instead and the first 10 minutes are converted. Short clips of the part you need give the cleanest notes.
Load it in any DAW and assign instruments, open it in notation software with MIDI to sheet music, or turn it into tablature with the guitar tab generator.
Clear solo piano or guitar recordings give the best results. Singing, reverb, distortion, noise and dense mixes confuse any note detection model, so use the sensitivity, pitch range and quantize controls and check by ear before you export.
Convert only music you own or have permission to use, such as your own uploads, licensed or royalty free tracks and public domain pieces, and follow the YouTube terms of service. Publishing, selling or performing a converted copyrighted song needs permission from the rights holder.
No. The audio is only used to detect the notes, and you get the MIDI file, not the video or an MP3. The note detection runs in your browser.
